LGBT Books for Pride Month pt.2 - except it's July but it doesn't matter cause pride month is every month for me

Hey...

Hey...

How y'all doing...?

I know I'm late, but in my defense I was very lazy and unmotivated. I had this whole plan to read 4 books for pride month and I only got through two, one of which wasn't even on the list of books I wanted to read (and it was a graphic novel too). And that's the book this post is about! Time for another 2am rant about a gay book I read!

So the book this post is about is called "Check Please!" by Ngozi Ukazu (a Nigerian author who has another graphic novel coming out this year), but specifically the second book in the series.

P.S. as I was doing my research I saw that it started off as a Webtoon so please read it on there if you can!

The second book starts off during Eric "Bitty" Bittle's third year at Samwell as a member of the hockey team. His boyfriend, Jack, has graduated and was scouted to be a member of an NHL hockey team, so they both have to deal with being able to see each other due to those scheduling conflicts as well as having to hide the fact that they're dating. The whole time Bitty is making sure that him and his team member/friends can rely on him while having to hide his sexuality from them in fear of everyone seeing him differently. Eventually they both decide to make their relationship public, by kissing on national tv (Yuri On Ice much?) and their friends and family are very supportive of them and their relationship. Bitty's mom, however, is not very supportive of the fact that he has been using her sister's jam recipe after their feud.

They even got married at the end. Finally! A gay story where someone DOESN'T die! I could cry. There are even a couple sections afterwards of some very comedic panels and some "tweets" that Bitty has sent throughout the school year. Bitty is a very cute and energetic character that everyone can't help but love and he finds his bravery, that was always inside of him, at the end.

I think this story was beautifully written, especially the first book in this series, because I'm such a sucker for slow burn and happy endings. I think it makes a story worth reading.

If you like cute little gay romance stories then I strongly recommend that you read these books (remember it's on Webtoon!) because it is a nice refreshing break from all of the dark and traumatic romance that we have been seeing trend recently.

I will continue reading LGBT books this year and every year so look forward to the posts that will be coming out later this year. Thank you for taking the time to read this, even if it was extremely late.
