LGBT Books for Pride Month pt.2 - except it's July but it doesn't matter cause pride month is every month for me

Image
Hey... Hey... How y'all doing...? I know I'm late, but in my defense I was very lazy and unmotivated. I had this whole plan to read 4 books for pride month and I only got through two, one of which wasn't even on the list of books I wanted to read (and it was a graphic novel too). And that's the book this post is about! Time for another 2am rant about a gay book I read! So the book this post is about is called "Check Please!" by Ngozi Ukazu (a Nigerian author who has another graphic novel coming out this year), but specifically the second book in the series.  P.S. as I was doing my research I saw that it started off as a Webtoon so please read it on there if you can! The second book starts off during Eric "Bitty" Bittle's third year at Samwell as a member of the hockey team. His boyfriend, Jack, has graduated and was scouted to be a member of an NHL hockey team, so they both have to deal with being able to see each other due to those scheduling co...

LGBT Books for Pride Month pt.1 - The Song of Achilles

Image
-WARNING: Spoilers Ahead- It has been 7 days since I finished The Song of Achilles, a gay tragedy focused on the main character, Patroclus, and his lover, Achilles, and their entire relationship up until they die, and I have been in mourning ever since. This book gives me the same exact emotions I get when I think of Past Lives, BUT I can confidently say that this is now my favorite book every written. I've never read a book that has moved me as much as this one has. THIS is how love should be. They are two completely different people who love each other unconditionally because of and despite their differences. They were together for 18 years before death split them apart and then they came back together in the afterlife. When I first started this book, it had been almost a year ago, so I had forgotten most of the details that were in the beginning parts of the book, however I would love to have a chance to pick the book up again and re-read it so that I can experience all these em...

Monster: A Japanese Film about how context matters

Image
The other day I was at a sleepover and we decided to watch a movie called Monster. It's a Japanese film and it is pretty hard to explain without spoiling it, but it  starts off about a mother who thinks her son is being bullied by a teacher at school. In this post I won't explain the movie because I just want to get my thoughts out about it, so please go watch the movie before reading it (we watched it on Amazon Prime). The movie was a very interesting experience for me. You will see, as you watch it, more questions pop up than answers, but those questions eventually get answered the move point of views you go through. Except for the one question at the end of the movie: did the boys survive?  I am a very hopeful person, despite how realistic I am, and I assumed they had survived and taken a different path or simply just ran away. The clues we have to support this are the open window at the bottom of the train as well as the train tunnel that the boys walked through after esca...

Cry With Me

Image
I took a trip to New York with some friends and a professor recently. The main reason for the trip was to visit the brand new Korean Culture Center that had JUST opened up the week before we got there. We took a tour around the building (well, only the finished rooms), and they had a library and a kitchen and a traditional Korean welcome room with heated floors. They also invited us to watch a Korean film in their theater room. The movie was called "Past Lives".      The movie started out with two girls deciding their English names, for reason they have yet to figure out. Then, while at the dinner table, her mother asks who she has a crush on at school. Nayoung enthusiastically says she has a crush on her seatmate. Haesung. Their mothers then chaperones the kids on a date with each other. Nayoung's mother then reveals to Haesung's mother that they will be immigrating to Canada soon, so she wanted to give Nayoung great memories before they left. The day...

First Post Of Many

Hello everyone! This is the first blog post of mine and I'm so excited to share with you the inner mechanisms of my mind. I will simply just talk about things that have been on my mind or go into depth about my favorite media. It's basically just a glorified journal for me that other people can read. I really just needed an outlet for my thought that other people can comment on. And the font will be in light blue as it is my entire personality. Thank you, dear reader, for joining me on this journey that will transcend time and space (until I get bored of it).  Signing off, K.L.
